Joan Popkin, Founder, Principal and Designer

For more than 25 years, Joan Popkin has been beautifying and organizing commercial, corporate and residential spaces with a special flare for fresh and functional design.

With an aesthetic sensibility nurtured by years of training in design and fine arts, Joan Popkin brings an intimate understanding of color, light and space to her work. As the founding principal of JDP Interior Design, she personally oversees each aspect of every design project.

Joan Popkin holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Design and Environmental Analysis from Cornell University. She also studied Architectural Design and Construction at the New York Institute of Technology and Decorative Painting Techniques at the Parsons School of Design.

Upon completing her studies, she worked with prestigious Manhattan design firms including Valerian Ryber & Daigar, where she specialized in residential and commercial interiors gaining experience in corporate interior design. Later, as Manager of Facilities Planning and Design for Paramount Communications, Joan was responsible for the corporation’s interior design and space planning.

Throughout her extensive career, Joan has continued to work with private clients on their residential property renovations.

Resources include long standing relationships with the finest custom workrooms, contractors, carpenters, painters and furniture houses. Strategies for practicing eco-design (green design) and its specific resources are also available.

The philosophy of JDP Interior Design is to enrich creativity through continued education and research. Joan Popkin is an active member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) and National Association of Women’s Business Owners (NAWBO).
